Monday 27 January marks the start of Independent Venue Week 2025, an annual celebration of independent music venues, their invaluable contribution to our society and role in supporting the future of British music.
Independent Venue Week
Our Music For The Many campaign continues to fight to promote and protect grassroots music venues who, through years of austerity and government inaction, find themselves perilously teetering on the brink of closure.
As part of our Independent Venue Week commemorations, we have published a short article on our campaign on the the Good Fight bulletin, a new resource to help build solidarity and strengthen our movement. Read the post here to support grassroots music venues, independent journalism, and the struggle for a world that works for the many, not just the few.
Last week, we launched the Music For The Many petition to demand the government acts now to save British music by implementing the recommendations of the DCMS committee report on grassroots music venues, including the introduction of a small ticket levy on large arena and stadium concerts – paid for their corporate sponsors, including fossil fuel giants and energy companies who make massive profits at the expense of the sustainability of our planet.
We are so close to hitting our petition target and hope to smash through it during Independent Venue Week to send a powerful message to the government and keep the plight of grassroots music venues on the government’s agenda.
Jeremy Corbyn in concert…?
We will be also closing out Independent Venue Week 2025 with a very special concert at the 100 Club in London on Sunday 2 February, featuring the Menstrual Cramps, Jeremy Corbyn, and special guests. This promises to be an exciting event of music, solidarity and the celebration of independently-run music venues. There are still some tickets remaining and you can get yours here.
Thank you for your support for Britain’s grassroots music venues and the arts. Stay tuned for further announcements on how you can support our Music For The Many campaign very soon.
