Theresa May caused quite a storm on Monday 10 July, as she asked Labour to help develop government policy. But in a now familiar style, Jeremy Corbyn threw some wry shade right back at her.
Desperate times…
As The Canary previously reported, May is apparently going to deliver a speech on Tuesday 11 July; one which will outline her plans to invite Labour to help create government policy. As The Guardian noted, the speech:
will be seen as an attempt to relaunch her faltering premiership, [but also] challenging MPs across the spectrum to ‘come forward with your own views and ideas about how we can tackle these challenges as a country’.
Desperate measures…
But the news has not gone down well among fellow Tories. First, Secretary of State Damian Green was wheeled out in front of four different media outlets. But he struggled to present the plan in a convincingly positive light, eventually crumbling on LBC.
Then, former chancellor George Osborne’s paper The Evening Standard stuck the boot into May. It published the following nautical-themed cartoon about her plans:

May hit with shade
But if this wasn’t all bad enough for the PM, independent news site SKWAWKBOX published an exclusive statement from Corbyn’s office. The unnamed source told SKWAWKBOX:
If she needs help, we’ll be happy to send her Labour’s General Election manifesto. It contains some great stuff on how a real government, with the genuine best interests of the country and its people at heart, will negotiate Brexit.
As many of her colleagues already seem to want to use it as a reference-guide for proper government anyway, we’ll be happy to present her with her own copy.
We’re sure she’ll appreciate it.
With Labour leading in the polls, and Corbyn now having a better approval rating from the public than May – the PM might do well to listen to the Labour source. Because she is currently upstream without a paddle.
