The Canary‘s Slava Zilber spoke with journalist Wyatt Reed, who has been covering the Black Lives Matter protests in Portland, Oregon. Federal officers, deployed by Donald Trump, have been targeting both protesters and journalists in Portland in an increasingly authoritarian clampdown.
At the time of publication, federal officers appear to have stepped back from their frontline positions as part of a withdrawal agreement with Oregon’s governor Kate Brown. How long this lasts remains to be seen.
